On the 9th and 10th of May 2024, the Killybegs Marine Cluster, along with several of its member companies, participated in the Scottish Skipper Expoin Aberdeen at P&J Live. Some members also exhibited at the event, including KER Group, SeaQuest Systems, Swan Net Gundry, EK Marine, KT Nets, alongside several visiting companies.

The primary objective of attending the Scottish Skipper Expo was to strengthen commercial relationships and identify new business opportunities. The event provided a platform for networking with industry stakeholders, showcasing Irish marine engineering expertise, and exploring potential collaborations within the wider fisheries and maritime sectors. With a strong representation from Killybegs leading marine businesses, the visit reinforced the clusters commitment to expanding international market presence, fostering innovation, and driving commercial growth within the Blue Economy. Beyond strengthening commercial relationships, the Killybegs Marine Cluster also explored cluster-to-cluster collaborations at the Scottish Skipper Expo through pre-arranged meetings with the Danish Ocean Cluster and the Norwegian-based Måløy Maritime Group.

These discussions focused on potential partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and supply chain integration to create new commercial opportunities for Killybegs Marine Cluster members. Key topics included joint innovation projects, market expansion strategies, and leveraging each clusters strengths in marine engineering, offshore wind, and sustainable fisheries. By building these international relationships, Killybegs aims to enhance its global reach, drive industry-led innovation, and provide greater commercial benefits for its members within the evolving Blue Economy.

The Killybegs Marine Cluster visited the Scottish Skipper Expo, which several KMC members were exhibiting, which included, KER Group, SeaQuest Systems, Swan Net Gundry, EK Marine, KT Nets and several visiting companies.

On the 14th and 15th of May 2024, the Killybegs Marine Cluster, alongside several of its member companies, including Mooney Boats,MMG Ocean and KER Group, exhibited at Aquaculture UK in Aviemore, Scotland. Other cluster members, such as SeaQuest Systems, Gallagher Bros. andSwan Net Gundry also attended the event as visitors.

The Killybegs Marine Cluster collaborated closely with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Irelands national seafood development agency, which participated on the clusters stand. The key objective of exhibiting at this international aquaculture event was to highlight Killybegs expertise in marine engineering and supply chain capabilities for the global aquaculture industry. The event provided a global platform to showcase the regions innovative solutions, strengthen industry connections, and explore opportunities for collaboration in this rapidly growing sector.

Beyond commercial opportunities, the cluster used this event to network with other international clusters and agencies, including those from Canada, Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) where relationships have already been established through the Laurentic Forum. These engagements support the ongoing expansion of Killybegs reach in the global aquaculture market, reinforcing its role as a leading hub for marine innovation, engineering, and sustainable Blue Economy solutions.
