The Killybegs Marine Cluster exhibited at this year’s Wind Energy Ireland Trade Show, held on November 6th and 7th, 2024, at the RDS in Dublin. Several Killybegs Marine Cluster members, along with key stakeholder partners, including ATU, also attended the event, reinforcing Killybegs position as a critical hub for offshore wind development.
This trade show provided a key platform to showcase Killybegs Ports strategic potential, its marine engineering expertise, and the wider supply chains ability to support the offshore wind sector. The event allowed the cluster to engage directly with industry leaders, policymakers, and potential business partners, strengthening its role in Irelands offshore wind ambitions.
Additionally, Padraig Gallagher from ATU spoke about ATUs commitment to the EU-funded T-Shore project, which focuses on harmonizing skills across offshore wind through collaboration with European education providers. This initiative aims to standardize training, address workforce gaps, and ensure Ireland is equipped with the skilled talent needed to support the offshore wind industry. By participating in Wind Energy Irelands flagship trade show, the Killybegs Marine Cluster further raised its profile, highlighted the expertise within its ecosystem, and demonstrated its commitment to supporting the growth of offshore wind through infrastructure, education, and supply chain innovation.
In addition to exhibiting and attending the Wind Energy Ireland Trade Show, the Killybegs Marine Cluster was invited to participate in an RWE Cluster Meeting, which brought together key clusters from across the island of Ireland to support the emerging offshore wind industry. This meeting included representatives from Enterprise Irelands, Gael Offshore Network, the Marine Ireland Industry Network (MIIN), and several other Blue Economy and emerging Blue Economy clusters. The discussions focused on collaborative opportunities, supply chain integration, and aligning industry efforts to accelerate offshore wind development in Ireland. As part of the engagement, the Killybegs Marine Cluster extended an invitation to RWE, one of the leading offshore wind developers, to visit Killybegs. The goal is to provide first-hand insight into Killybegs marine engineering expertise, supply chain capabilities, and world-class port infrastructure. This visit would highlight how Killybegs is strategically positioned to support the domestic offshore wind market, ensuring that Irelands Blue Economy benefits from the opportunities presented by offshore renewable energy. By engaging with leading industry players like RWE, the Killybegs Marine Cluster continues to strengthen its role as a key enabler of Irelands offshore wind supply chain, advocating for local industry involvement, infrastructure investment, and workforce development to maximize the sectors long-term economic impact.
