Enterprise Ireland Update on RTCF Extension
Enterprise Ireland has confirmed the continuation of the Regional Technology Cluster Fund (RTCF) following approval from the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment (DETE). This extension grants an additional two years of funding, ensuring that the Killybegs Marine Cluster will continue to receive support until the end of January 2027. This extension reinforces the Irish governments commitment to regional cluster development, recognizing the Killybegs Marine Clusters strategic role in driving marine innovation, supply chain integration, and offshore wind development. With this continued funding, the cluster can further expand its impact, strengthen industry collaborations, and enhance Irelands Blue Economy through innovation, skills development, and international partnerships.
- The first cohort of Electrical Apprenticeships will commence in September 2024 after a significant monetary investment in Killybegs Campus during the summer months.
In September 2024, Atlantic Technological University (ATU) welcomed its first cohort of electrical apprenticeships at the Killybegs campus, marking a significant milestone in the university commitment to marine and maritime education. This followed a major capital investment programme over the summer months, aimed at enhancing and transitioning Killybegs campus into a leading hub for maritime and offshore industry training. The investment has enabled the development of state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring that apprentices receive industry-relevant training that aligns with the growing needs of the offshore wind, marine engineering, and renewable energy sectors. By launching this electrical apprenticeship programme, ATU is strengthening the skills pipeline for Irelands Blue Economy, providing essential workforce training to support the future of offshore renewable energy and maritime industries. This initiative further reinforces Killybegs role as a centre for excellence in marine education and innovation.
- The Ocean Innovation Centre (OIC) planned for Killybegs is progressing and an update will be provided at the next KMC Steering Committee meeting.
